About PixelKit

PixelKit is a file converter and compressor that runs entirely in your browser. No uploads, no accounts, no watermarks. Built by people who got tired of watching spinner animations.

Why it exists

Most online file tools upload your file to a server, process it, and send it back. That works, but it means every file you convert (photos, ID scans, medical images, legal documents) passes through a server you don't control. For personal photos that's mildly uncomfortable. For a passport scan or a medical record, it's a real privacy risk.

Modern browsers can do everything those servers do. WebAssembly, Web Workers, and the Canvas API are fast enough to convert a 20 MB HEIC photo to a 200 KB JPG in under a second, without ever leaving your device. PixelKit exists to prove that.

What it does well

  • Convert between HEIC, JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, and PDF.
  • Hit an exact KB target (50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB) with the highest quality that fits.
  • Batch convert many files at once, in parallel, using multi-core Web Workers.
  • Crop & Frame Studio: Crop aspect ratios (1:1, 4:5, 16:9, freeform) with visual grid guidelines.
  • Scale & Resize Resolution: Scale dimensions proportionally or hit exact pixel targets with Passport ID and Web HD presets.
  • Work offline seamlessly after the initial page load.
  • Optimized for both mobile and desktop screens in every modern browser.

What it doesn't do

  • ✕ Never uploads your files. They stay strictly inside your device memory.
  • ✕ Zero personal data collection. See our Privacy Policy.
  • ✕ No watermarks or branding added to your converted outputs.
  • ✕ No accounts or signups. No email, credit card, or personal information required.

How it's built

The site is a static Astro build deployed on Cloudflare's CDN. The conversion engine is vanilla TypeScript executing in isolated Web Workers. Heavy libraries are loaded lazily only when needed:
